Rey Gonzales, President of Importpro.net, has served as a licensed international custom broker for over 35 years.   He has assisted in project development in the Far/Middle East, Latin America, and Africa for major engineering, service, and energy companies. 

 

A former Port of Houston Commissioner, Mr. Gonzales has chaired the Greater Houston Partnership’s Maritime, Aviation, Americas, and Access Mexico Committees and participated in trade missions to South Africa, Europe, Mexico, and Latin America. As a Director of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, he has served as Chairman of the Corporate Development Committee. He also serves on the Executive Boards of Greater Houston YMCA, the Battleship of Texas Foundation, and the Port of Houston Small Business Development Council. He was the President and Co-Founder of the nationally acclaimed Houston Hispanic Forum.  

 

He received the Medal of Merit from President Reagan. In 2000, Mr. Gonzales was selected as one of 70 Hispanics nationwide to serve on the Senatorial Hispanic Advisory Group in Washington. He also serves on Senator Hutchinson’s Hispanic Advisory Group. In 2007, he also received the President’s Volunteer Service Award.  A graduate and former trustee of the University of St. Thomas, Mr. Gonzales retired as a Colonel, Corp of Engineers, USAR. A graduate of the Army Command and General Staff College and the Army War College, he has received numerous awards to include the Dept of Commerce - SBA Minority Businessman of the Year, the Department of Defense’s American Spirit Honor Medal, the Hispanic community’s Man of the Year, and the Transportation Person of the Year Award. At St. Thomas, he was inducted into Omicron Delta Epsilon, the Economics Honor Society, and has been a recipient of the Pythagorus Award of excellence in mathematics and physics.  In 2006, the Port of Houston Authority, the City of Houston Aviation Authority and the Department of Commerce jointly honored Mr. Gonzales as the first recipient of the International Excellence Award for his work as a Custom Broker.

 

Mr. Gonzales is married to the former Santa Saldivar. His married daughter lives in Miami and he is the proud grandfather of 2 boys.
