The Foundation purchased two Crimescopes for the Homicide Division’s Crime Scene Unit (CSU). The Crimescopes enhance this squad of investigators by providing necessary technological support to the Unit’s mission of crime scene search, documentation and evidence collection.
The two scopes purchased enable the investigators the ability to locate evidence that is unseen with the naked eye. The forensic crime scene scopes utilize the most recent technology allowing the identification of fingerprints, body fluids, hair fibers, bruises, bite marks, wound patterns, shoe and foot imprints, gun shot residues, drug traces and much more.
The Crimescope is a forensic light source manufactured by SPEX Forensics. Forensic light sources are high-intensity lights specifically designed for forensic applications. These instruments have controls which allow the operator to adjust the color bands (wavelengths) to account for various types of surfaces and different background colors. The result is a visual enhancement that assists crime scene investigators in searching a scene for evidence. Forensic light sources are invaluable tools for the tasks of scene assessment and evidence processing. They can be used to search for hairs and fibers, latent fingerprints, and body fluid stains that are not visible to the naked eye, thus increasing both the efficiency and thoroughness of forensic investigations.
